William MATTEUZZI |
|
| |
William Matteuzzi was born
in Bologna where he began to study singing with Paride Venturi.
Several years later he met the famous musicologist Rodolfo Celletti
who was a priceless advisor in choosing his repertoire. Matteuzzi
became one of the greatest interpreters of Rossini and bel canto (Donizetti,
Bellini etc.). The extraordinary extension of his voice allowed him
to sing integrally the roles of pure “contraltini”. His repertoire
is made up of more than a hundred roles of “recitar cantando” from
the classic, bel canto and romantic up to Strauss and Nino Rota. He
has performed in all the Italian opera houses: from the Scala of
Milan to the Bellini Theatre in Catania. He’s also appeared at the
Spoleto Festival and the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome. He has
performed under the baton of Abbado, Muti, Chailly, Pappano Jacobs
etc. and has worked with some of today’s top directors such as
Strehler, Ronconi, Pizzi, Olmi, Salvatores, Hampe. He has sung in
almost every opera house in Europe and most major theatres all over
the world (except Australia, unfortunately!). Lately, he directed
Barbiere di Siviglia with acclaimed success. He also directed a
performance of Monteverdi, underlying the link between prose and
music. In addition to his recording activity, he has been giving
Master Classes both in Italy and abroad. |
